Illustrated here are various homes and apartment Interiors, both renovations and new construction, all done by this Practice. The common theme involves reliance on deep materials palettes and control of lighting, both natural & artificial, to create a rich and artful Interior Architectural Experience.
The result: Beautiful places to live in.

Scale

Scale and proportion is the thing in decor of an urban home. How furnishings, built-ins and architectural details relate insofar as both style and geometry require attention. Understanding colors in relation to sunlight is key to designing an apartment. Design also includes fabrics and furniture as central features in any Interior solution.

Light, Shadow, Shade

Natural light, together with artificial light, work in concert with color and tone to articulate an Interior. Colors of light from lamps should be chosen to complement material and finish. Field testing should be done onsite to select correct palettes, just as a beautiful painting is done.

Insulated Glass Walls

Contemporary enclosing wall and roof systems are weatherproof and sufficiently insulated that many architectural opportunities can be explored. Curtain walls in glass towers can be developed with new shading and sun control systems. Penthouses can readily become very exciting using new materials and products, including insulated glareproof windows and glazing.

Interior Space and Surface

Spaces are defined by the architectural surfaces around them. Along with basic proportion, things like colors of floors, walls and casework, shadow lines of mouldings and columns, and patterns of cabinetry and tile play a role in a memorable Interior Design.

Metal Hardware and Furniture

Metal work in decorative trim, furniture, window and door hardware--even in plumbing fixtures--re places where the eye can rest. Handled properly, the artistic relation between them and an Interior lends scale. Good design considers these smaller features right at the outset.

Pattern, Shape & Tranparency

Control and custom shaping of wood, insofar as cabinets and railings, together with considered placement of casework patterns, is central to defining Interior Space. The same is true of stone, tile and glass. The transparency of glass offers opportunities in accent, through refraction, via countertops, bath enclosures, and windows and skylights.

Inspirations

The Interiors of this practice are influenced by the beautiful apartments and homes of the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. Steve has photographed nearly all of Aalto's works, and can draw upon numerous ideas he has seen for his Interiors clientele. The link displays Modern designs in stunning slideshows.
